STABILITY
Lactobacillus rhamnosus PB-LR76 powder was sealed in an aluminum foil bag and maintained at -18℃ for 24 months for a long-term stability test. The microbial enumeration of Lactobacillus rhamnosus PB-LR76 should be performed no more frequently than at the initial, 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24 month time points. According to Fig 3, the potency of Lactobacillus rhamnosus PB-LR76 powder was 3.61×1011 CFU/g. After a storage period of 24 months, the powder potency was 2.18×1011CFU/g. It means that this strain can remain stable for a long time if stored at low temperatures.
Potential health benefits
Lactobacillus rhamnosus is a probiotic bacterium that has been studied for its potential role in modulating the immune system and providing relief from allergies.
Regulation of Immune Response:
L. rhamnosus may influence the balance of the immune system, promoting a more balanced and regulated response. Allergic reactions often involve an overactive immune response to harmless substances, and probiotics, including L. rhamnosus, may help modulate this response.
Anti-Inflammatory Effects:
Probiotics, including L. rhamnosus, have been associated with anti-inflammatory properties. Chronic inflammation is often associated with allergies, and the ability of L. rhamnosus to reduce inflammation may contribute to alleviating allergic symptoms.
Tolerance Induction:
Probiotics may play a role in inducing immune tolerance, which is the ability of the immune system to tolerate harmless substances without triggering an allergic response. L. rhamnosus may contribute to the development of immune tolerance, potentially reducing the severity of allergic reactions.
Regulation of Th2 Immune Response:
Allergies are often associated with an overactive Th2 immune response. L. rhamnosus has been suggested to modulate the balance between Th1 and Th2 immune responses, potentially shifting the immune system toward a less reactive state.
Maintenance of Gut Barrier Function:
L.rhamnosus, when present in the gastrointestinal tract, may contribute to the maintenance of gut barrier function. A healthy gut barrier helps prevent the entry of allergens into the bloodstream, reducing the likelihood of systemic allergic reactions.
Interference with IgE Production:
Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is an antibody associated with allergic reactions. Some studies suggest that L. rhamnosus may interfere with the production of IgE, potentially reducing the allergic response.
Modulation of Cytokine Production:
Probiotics, including L. rhamnosus, can influence the production of cytokines, which are signaling molecules involved in immune responses. Modulation of cytokine production by L. rhamnosus may contribute to the regulation of allergic reactions.
Reduction of Mast Cell Activation:
Mast cells play a key role in allergic reactions by releasing histamine and other mediators. Lactobacillus Rhamnosus Probiotic may have a regulatory effect on mast cell activation, potentially reducing the severity of allergic symptoms.
