PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Lactobacillus acidophilus is a species of Gram-positive bacteria in the genus Lactobacillus. L. acidophilus is a homofermentative, microaerophilic species, fermenting sugars into lactic acid, and grows readily at rather low pH values (below pH 5.0) and has an optimum growth temperature of around 37 ℃. L. acidophilus is found in the human and animal gastrointestinal tract and mouth. It is commercially used in many dairy products, sometimes together with Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus in the production of acidophilus-type yogurt, or acidophiline.

ACID TOLERANCE
Acid resistance of Lactobacillus acidophilus HH-LA26 powder was carried out at either pH=2.0 and pH=3.0 for up to 4 hours. The microbial enumeration of Lactobacillus acidophilus HH-LA26 should be performed no more frequently than at the initial(as control), 1 hour, 2 hour, and 4 hour time points. The Fig 1 illustrates that Lactobacillus acidophilus HH-LA26 can survive at low pH conditions, which means this strain has good acid resistance.

BILE SALT TOLERANCE
Bile salt resistance of Lactobacillus acidophilus HH-LA26 powder was carried out at either 0.2% and 0.3% bile salt for up to 4 hours. The microbial enumeration of Lactobacillus acidophilus HH-LA26 should be performed no more frequently than at the initial(as control), 1 hour, 2 hour, and 4 hour time points. The Fig 2 illustrates that Lactobacillus acidophilus HH-LA26 can survive at high concentration of bile salt, which means this strain has good bile salt resistance.

STORAGE STABILITY
Lactobacillus acidophilus HH-LA26 powder were sealed in aluminum foil bag, maintained at -18℃ for 24 months for long-term stability test. The microbial enumeration of Lactobacillus acidophilus HH-LA26 should be performed no more frequently than at the initial, 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24 month time points. According to Fig 3, the potency of Lactobacillus acidophilus HH-LA26 powder was 3.30×1011 CFU/g. After a storage period of 24 months, the potency of the powder was 2.14×1011CFU/g. It means that this strain can remain stable for long time if stored at low temperature.

HEALTH BENEFITS
1. Growth Inhibition of Pathogenic Bacteria
The aim of this study was evaluation of antagonistic effect of L.acidophilus HH-LA26 against four pathogens. Antimicrobial effects of isolates were evaluated by disc diffusion test on plates with different pathogens. Growth inhibition zones of pathogens and L. acidophilus HH-LA26 inhibitory ability were assessed after incubation of all agar media at 37℃ for 24h. The results showed(Table 1) that L.acidophilus HH-LA26 had relatively strong activity against tested pathogens (with inhibition zone diameter> 15mm).

2. Modulate Immune System
After 30-days intragastric administration of L. acidophilus HH-LA26 in mice, the results(Fig 4.) showed that L.acidophilus HH-LA26 significantly increase proliferation of splenic lymphocyte in a dose-dependent manner.

Lactobacillus acidophilus HH-LA26 can be added as an adjunct in many food fermentation processes contributing to unique taste, flavor, and texture.
